Lyons Company Featured in Contractor Magazine
On the front page of the January 2010 edition of Contractor Magazine: The Newsmagazine of Mechanical Contracting, Lyons Company was featured for its unique work for River View Coal Mines.

Operated by River View Coal LLC, the River View Coal Mine is expected to produce 6.4 million tons of high-sulfur coal per year. Construction of the facility’s infrastructure has proceeded quickly. The mine is expected to employ as many as 600 workers by the end of 2010, according to company officials.

In summer 2008, when Lyons was preparing its bid, copper prices were at an all-time high. Tony Simmons, project superintendent for Lyons explained that the company had been investigating copper piping alternatives, including polypropylene.

Lyons Company Assists in Power Restoration Effort
Lyons Company has received a note of thanks from Bill Prather, CEO of Farmers Rural Electric Cooperative Corporation.  Mr. Prather expressed his appreciation for assistance Lyons Company provided to FRECC in restoring power to consumers whose service was lost due to the recent ice storm.  Initially, more than 10,000 consumers in the FRECC service area were without power – the greatest damage in Barren and Hart Counties.  The storm, which hit Kentucky on January 27, caused interruption of service to more than 750,000 consumers state wide.  Lyons Company contributed by delivering transformers and assisting pole trucks gain access to damaged utility poles in remote locations.  A special thanks to employees Chris Walden and Jorelle Minor who offered their time on the weekend following the ice storm.

Lyons Welcomes New Members
Lyons Company is pleased to welcome Jim Payne and Stuart Cook to our team. Jim brings ten years project management and over twenty years industry experience to his role of Project Manager. He comes to Lyons from the Detroit area. Stuart is a recent Mechanical Engineering graduate from Western Kentucky University and will start as a Design Engineer.

Adam Harlow Licensed as Professional Engineer
Adam Harlow, Lyons Company Mechanical Engineer, has passed the Mechanical Professional Engineering exam and is now licensed as a Professional Engineer. Adam is a 2003 graduate of the University of Louisville and has been with Lyons for five years.

Todd Pardue Achieves Professional Engineer Status
Todd Pardue, Lyons Company Project Manager, has passed the Mechanical Professional Engineering exam and is now a licensed Professional Engineer. Todd has previously achieved status as a Certified Energy Manager and Certified Plant Engineer. He also holds licenses as a Master HVAC Contractor, Boiler Contractor and Master Electrician in the state of Kentucky.

Lyons Company Completes Landfill Gas Project
Lyons Company recently completed its second landfill gas project at Pearl Hollow Landfill in Hardin County, Kentucky. Owned and operated by East Kentucky Power, this facility uses methane, naturally produced by the decomposition of landfill waste, to drive three 800-kw generators. The electricity generated is placed on the EKP grid as a source of renewable, environmentally friendly power.
